Overcoming chronic pain

Living with persistent pain

Living with chronic pain, such as back pain, can feel exhausting and overwhelming, especially when it limits the activities you love and affects your daily life. At Perennial Pilates, we understand how frustrating it can be to cope with ongoing discomfort, whether it’s back pain, joint pain, or chronic tension in the body. Pilates is known to be a highly effective, evidence-based method for managing and overcoming pain, helping to restore strength, flexibility, and balance.

Whole body approach

Pain can be thought of as the body's smoke detector that sends an alarm if there is a risk of (or actual) injury. However, sometimes the nervous system becomes overly sensitive, causing pain without any real threat. To manage chronic pain effectively it’s essential to take a holistic approach that addresses the entire body, not just the painful area. This can help reduce unnecessary pain signals and improve overall well-being.

Get moving

Movement is a powerful tool for reducing pain. Exercise can lead to significant reductions in pain and disability among individuals with chronic conditions like back pain, arthritis and fibromyalgia. Furthermore, movement helps decrease pain levels by promoting the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers. Your sessions will not only support you to get moving but also build a lifestyle exercise habit.

Strong and fit

Being strong and fit brings a sense of vitality that transforms everyday life, whether it's climbing a mountain or simply playing with your kids or grandkids. This strength fosters a virtuous cycle: as you feel able to exercise, you become stronger, which encourages you to build your fitness even further. With each workout, you not only build strength and flexibility but also feel energised.  This positive momentum fuels your motivation, making fitness an enjoyable and rewarding journey that enhances your overall well-being.
